Riot global esports head, John Needgam, reveals his vision for the future of LoL.
With the upcoming 2019 League of Legends World Championship starting from October 2 to November 10, Riot has started planning their future steps. Through an open letter, they revealed that Riot will be focusing more on the entertainment side of the game. These would include bigger live stages for events, easily accessible content, and support for regional leagues.
In the letter, Needgam states:
“In 2020, we’ll be more accessible to fans in every corner of the globe, support our growing regional leagues, and stage the biggest and most innovative live esports events the world has ever seen.”
However, these improvements do not mean that the competition side of the game is not the #1 priority of Riot. John also hinted about the upcoming changes to the game that will be released consecutively in updates after the World Championship 2019.
Riot established these ideas under a “bold and an aspirational ” vision:
LoL Esports brings joy to billions of fans around the world.
