Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has confirmed Ghost for the upcoming Season 2. Ghost is an incredibly iconic character in the Call of Duty franchise, one that fans have anxiously been awaiting since early operator leaks revealed that the character would be coming to the FPS game. Now, fans finally have confirmation that the character is on the way.
The teaser on Twitter shows someone logging into view encrypted files from Captain Price, ending with a brief view of Ghost’s reflection in the laptop screen. The files themselves may hint at what to expect on the release date, as it teases “updated weapons system/ordinance” and “new team operators” for support. All of this is said to be happening at the location “Grid X-Ray Delta Yankee 4.”
For those unfamiliar, Ghost originally debuted in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 back in 2009 and quickly became a fan-favorite character. Ghost’s death in the game is one of Call of Duty’s most shocking moments, one that many fans hang onto to this day. Seeing him finally return is a great moment for long-time fans of Call of Duty, one that will inevitably see the character dominating multiplayer matches online.
Aside from those clues, the teaser doesn’t give any more details. We can probably expect Ghost to join as a multiplayer character, or a new Spec Ops mission featuring the character.
The inclusion of Ghost doesn’t come as much surprise. He’s been one of the most popular Call of Duty characters since his debut in 2009’s Modern Warfare 2, and Infinity Ward has been hinting at a return. Modern Warfare 2019 was something of a soft reboot, reintroducing characters like Captain Price in a new, updated context. This Modern Warfare is also being treated as a live game, with regular updates adding new battle pass rewards, maps, playlists, and other features. The latest update added Shipment as the 24/7 map, and tweaked several weapons.
Ghost and Rust being added into Season 2 of Modern Warfare would be a nice hit of nostalgia for Call of Duty players. Many fans have fond memories of staying up late with a group of friends on Rust or encountering the skull-faced Ghost for the very first time. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is already the most played Call of Duty of this generation, and adding in these old fan favorites could surely cement that achievement.
